Upcoming Library Gigs

Apr 21, 2012

Springtime presents some rich opportunities for library folks to learn, share, and celebrate with each other. I’m a huge fan of libraries and jump at the chance to meet with library friends old and new. I’m excited to be speaking at two library events this May.

38th Annual AALT Conference, May 3 to May 6, 2012, Canmore, Alberta
Achieving Balance is the theme for this year’s Alberta Association of Library Technicians’ spring conference. I’m heading to the mountains on May 5 to speak to the gang about ways to improve grant writing skills. Most people I know dread writing proposals, so my focus will be on making the job easier.

Marigold Member Libraries’ Workshop, May 9, 2012, Strathmore, Alberta
I’m looking forward to joining a packed day of sessions and celebrations sponsored by the Marigold Regional Library. I’ll be speaking in the morning about why good writing is good for libraries. Librarians do so much more than shelf books and answer reference questions. Their days are packed with writing jobs too -- emails, newsletters, letters, blogs, reports -- the list is endless. We'll cover some basic tools for creating communications that people can understand on the first read. Should be fun!
