A Roundup of Fall Festival Book Fun!

Aug 25, 2019

Summer is galloping by much too fast. When not writing, I’ve been sneaking off to the magic forest with the grandkids, stealing patio drinks with girlfriends, savouring lovely walks and talks, and keeping the barbeque fired up.

With so much on my schedule to look forward to this fall, I can hardly complain about the shorter days. Come September, I’ll be squeezing in book club visits with NO GOOD ASKING between road trips to some terrific Alberta book festivals.

Things kick off with a Book Club Jamboree in Red Deer on September 21 sponsored by the Red Deer Arts Council and the Red Deer Public Library. What could be better than a whole bunch of book clubs all in the same room? The afternoon will celebrate book clubs and book lovers from all over central Alberta with bookish games, prizes and a panel discussion with book club pros! I’ve had so much fun on the planning committee and can’t wait to meet up with some of the book club gals I’ve visited over the past year.

From there I’m off to Rimbey on September 28 for their Words West of the 5th Festival in celebration of Alberta Culture Days. The festival includes a Poetry Cafe, Writers' Session, and a Homegrown and Open Mic night.

On October 3, I’ll be at the Fall Feast of Words at the Strathcona County Library, which is hosting so many great authors in conversation.

STARFest in St. Albert, now its ninth year, is another not-to-be missed festival. I’m delighted to join so many of my writing heroes in this year’s lineup, including Katherena Vermette, Emma Donoghue, and Waubgeshig Rice, among others. My STARFest evening is October 22, where I hope to meet old friends and new.

On November 16, I’ll be joining Angie Abdou and a panel of well-loved authors for the first ever Get Lit! Writers Festival in the magnificent Empress Theatre in Fort Macleod.

What a bucket list of book fun! I’m so grateful to all the dedicated organizers for including me in these fabulous celebrations of the written word.
